Fluid Analysis of your Class A, B, C, or tow vehicle truck

“Plan on about $8,000-$10,000 to replace an Aisin or Allison transmission found in many heavy duty GM or Ram trucks”

– Jake Eglestad, Owner, PSI Diesel Performance       (Snohomish, WA)

Benefits of Fluid Analysis

  • It is a “blood test” that reflects the operational condition of your engine, transmission, coolant system and/or generators.
  • For Class A, B or C Motorhomes, it is crucial if buying used.
  • Peace of mind
  • Know right away if there are potential problems that may not be resolved without substantial additional costs.
  • Avoid paying premium prices for the Motorhome or Tow Vehicle knowing that your engine, transmission, coolant or generator may cost you thousands in repairs in short order.
  • Don’t be a sucker who is holding the bag of a previous owners lack of maintenance.

What samples are taken and what is the process?

You can choose a single analysis or all of the following:

  • Oil
  • Transmission (even differential if you go data “nerdy”)
  • Coolant
  • Generator

You can gain complete operational knowledge by ordering all samples.

Samples are ideally taken a day or so ahead of your RV inspection and overnighted to JG Lubricant laboratories in Indiana for analysis.  Results are typically within a few business days, sometimes sooner for rush requests (additional cost).

See how to read the analysis results report HERE.

Your inspector will be in contact with the seller to make sure engines and/or generators have adequately been run prior to pulling samples.

Analysis is performed by JG Lubricant Laboratory which is  ISO 17025A certified.   JB Lubricants has specifically worked with and provided training for the NRVIA Certified Inspector curriculum.  The owner, Tom Johnson, was the Transmission Fluids Engineer for Allison Transmission for the last 20 years before his retirement in 2009.  Tom worked closely with the US Army Tank Automotive Command to review military specification oils for use in US Army tactical and combat wheeled and track laying vehicles.

You’ve seen the incredulous purchases all over Facebook RV groups.

Over the last two years, people have been paying through the roof and then some for late model used and new trucks to tow their RV’s.  Protect your investment, reduce the probability of taking on a problem Truck or Motorhome.  Or worse, being stranded with a breakdown.   You don’t want to lose long standing reservations, days, weeks, or having to cancel a long planned camping tour/trip.

Knowledge is power

Below are the reasons why your tow vehicle is the most important tool in travel and why Fluid Analysis should be added to your inspection:

  • Your tow vehicle provides safety and comfort in hazardous or challenging travel environments such as weather related or off-road in the wild boondocking.
  • Your tow vehicle gets you to many destinations for camping : National Parks, State Parks, Regional or Local Parks, popular destinations and family/friends vacation spots.
  • Your tow vehicle provides intermediate transportation/commuting for further travel: for work or to obtain living or RV necessities required while traveling.
  • A break down of your transportation tow vehicle stops you in your tracks.

Fluid analysis should be a part of your overall RV checklist when making big purchases.  It is especially important when purchasing used trucks and absolutely essential when purchasing Diesel powered trucks.
